Bengaluru: A 42-year old man was killed and at least five others were injured in a chain collision between a minibus, lorry, and two cars near the toll gate on NICE Road on Monday morning.

The accident occurred around 9 am near the Basapura bridge, when a minibus with 18 employees of a switchboard company in Bommasandra crashed into a stationary 16-wheeler lorry that was parked on one side. Within seconds, two cars behind the minibus crashed into it.

The collision resulted in the death of a man named Devaraju, a native of Kunigal who worked at the company. Four other passengers in the bus sustained injuries along with the driver and they have been taken to two private hospitals -- Sacred Oak Hospital and Kauvery Hospital -- on Hosur Road. According to the Electronic City traffic police, the passengers in both the cars escaped unscathed.

"We have identified the lorry driver as the first accused because he left the lorry on such a busy road without taking any safety measures. It most likely suffered some mechanical issues," said an officer attached to the Electronic City traffic police station.

The driver of the minibus has been booked for rash and negligent driving.
