<p><em>UVCE, established by legendary engineer M Visvesvaraya, is marking its landmark with a two-day event from tomorrow</em></p>.<p>University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE) is celebrating its centenary with a festival on June 30 and July 1 at Ambedkar Bhavan.</p>.<p>Former students are coming from many parts of India and abroad to trace the journey of their institution.</p>.<p>M Visvesvaraya, the legendary engineer, was instrumental in establishing the college in 1917. It is the first engineering college of Karnataka and the fifth in India, now affiliated to Bangalore University.</p>.<p>The chief guest at the event is Dr M R Srinivasan, Padma Vibhushan awardee. Other guests are Dr Roddam Narasimha and Dr V K Aatre, also recipients of the Padma Vibhushan. Dr T S Prahlad, Dr Prahlada Rao, recipients of the Padmashri, Dr K R Venugopal, vice chancellor of Bangalore University, and Dr H N Ramesh, principal of UVCE, all former students of UVCE, will be at the festival.</p>.<p>The two-day event includes interactions about the future of the institution and felicitations to faculty.</p>.<p>The college is located in the heart of the city at KR Circle. Over the years, it has produced some of the best engineers in the country.</p>.<p>“We are expecting 600 to 800 alumni joining us from various batches. We have Gopal, who is 94, from the 1946 batch, attending the event,” says Satish AG, a 2009 alumnus and one of the organisers of UVCE Payana, as the event is called. Invitations were handed out online from March, but some seniors said they weren’t on social media.</p>
