Residents of apartment complexes on Panathur-Belagere Road, who were distressed over the crumbling road and infrastructure, shared their grievance with the area corporator, who met them on Sunday and promised to resolve the issues.
.
DH reported on Sunday the deplorable condition of the road, highlighting the issues residents are going through, ranging from improper road and infrastructure, traffic jams, lack of public transport, absence of street lights, and garbage menace, among others.
.
Corporator Pushpa Manjunath, who visited the area, inspected the road and assured the residents of resolving some of the issues related to road and infrastructure in 15 days.
.
She said the road between the Varthur main road and Panathur ORR, which is already laid out with matrix, will be asphalted soon. "We have already alerted BBMP officials to expedite the installation of street lights on this road. I will make sure it will be done in a week," she said.
.
However, she did not give any time frame to begin work on widening the underpass at the road underbridge (RUB) on the Panathur-Belagere road, which is the major cause for traffic blocks. She will also lead the residents to the HAL police station on Monday to request them to assign two traffic policemen to control the vehicular movement near the RUB. The residents will also demand that the traffic police fix a particular time for water tankers, which queue up on the road during peak hours.
.
"We will request the traffic police to allow the tankers only between 12pm and 4pm," said Akshata Metgod, one of the apartment residents.
.
"I will get an appointment with the BBMP commissioner in two days and find out the status of land acquisition to widen the Panathur-Belagere Road. The process of acquiring land is time consuming as it is difficult to convince the property holders," the corporator said.
.
Akshata said residents will hold a meeting on August 19 to check the status of the works with the BBMP officials and the corporator. "It all seems to be progressing well now. We’ll support the authorities in any way they want," she said.
