A 52-year-old physically challenged man was found strangled in his house in Ramaiah Layout at Banaswadi on Thursday night.
According to the police, Raju was found dead on the second floor of the building. Two men, who came on the pretext of seeing the house for rent, choked Raju to death and fled the spot.
Raju owned a four-storey building and was residing in the first floor with his mother. One of his legs was paralysed due to polio attack. He was divorced 15 years ago. Around six months ago, he had married Madhavi, 36. Recently, the tenants on the second floor vacated and the house was vacant. Raju asked Madhu, a property broker, to look for tenants.
On Thursday evening, Madhu, along with two people, went to Raju’s house and told him that some people wanted to see the house for rent. Raju took the house keys and went along with the two persons to show them the house, while Madhu was talking to Raju’s mother on the first floor, the police said.
Raju’s sister, who was also at the house, found that her brother had not come down for a long time. She waited for a few minutes and then went to the second floor to check on her brother. She noticed the two persons standing in the balcony and Raju lying on the floor. She raised an alarm and rushed down to the first floor and informed her mother that Raju was lying motionless on the floor.
The mother and sister went to check on Raju, while Madhu and the two persons fled the spot. The other tenants and neighbours checked on Raju and found him dead. On being informed, police rushed to the spot and shifted the body for post-mortem.
Based on the information provided by Raju’s sister and mother, the police have detained Madhu and are questioning him. A search has been launched for his two associates.
It is learnt that Madhu arranged for the marriage of Raju and got his relative, Madhavi, married to him with an eye on the property.
Madhu was pestering Raju to transfer the property to Madhavi’s name but the latter was reluctant to do so. “A furious Madhu hatched a plot to kill Raju. But this version can be confirmed only after Madhu is subjected to interrogation. We will question Madhavi to get more details about the murder,” said a senior police officer.
Banaswadi police have registered a case.
