<p>Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said the State government will consider providing midday meals to students, teaching and non-teaching staff of all government colleges in the State at affordable prices.<br /><br /></p>.<p>“The State government is committed towards making the State free from hunger. Students going to government schools and colleges should not suffer from malnutrition. <br /><br />We will take steps accordingly and consider introducing midday meals for teaching, non-teaching staff and students of government colleges in Karnataka,” he said on the sidelines of the inauguration of ‘Suvarna Mahotsava’ celebration held at Government Women Polytechnic College, Seshadri Road here.<br /> <br />Siddaramaiah’s remarks came in the wake Shivajinagar MLA R Roshan Baig’s suggestion on providing midday meals to government colleges. <br /><br />“The students should be charged Rs 5, Rs 10 for non-teaching staff and Rs 20 for teaching staff for each mid-day meal plate in all government colleges,” Baig said. <br /><br />‘Ksheera Bhagya’<br /><br />The chief minister noted that under the government's Ksheera Bhagya scheme, a total of around one crore four lakh children are getting benefitted out of which 30 lakh are from Anganwadi Centres. <br /><br />“Every person should get education irrespective of caste or creed," he added. <br /><br />“The government will also think about increasing the number of hostels in all government colleges.” Higher Education Minister R V Deshpande said implementation of Edusat programme is in progress in all government degree and polytechnic colleges. <br /><br />On the Sowjanya rape and murder case, Siddaramaiah said Criminal Investigation Department (CID) inquiry is currently going on. <br /><br />“Once final report is submitted, we will consider handing over the case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).” <br /></p>
