Govt school teacher arrested in Pocso case in Karnataka

Bengaluru: The School Education and Literacy department has suspended a male teacher working with a government school in Anekal taluk following his arrest under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (Pocso Act).

Following complaints from the parents of six girl students against senior teacher Manjunath, accusing him of sexually harassing the children, the block education officer (BEO) visited the school along with representatives of Karnataka Child Rights Commission and recorded the statements of the children. The parents registered a case with the jurisdictional police.

Speaking to DH, Venkatesh, BEO, Anekal said, “Following the complaint filed by parents and based on the statement by the victim students, the police have booked a case under Pocso Act and arrested the teacher. Immediately after the arrest, we suspended the teacher.”

As per information, Manjunath was transferred to the present school recently.

“He fought with the school development and management committee members at a previous school where he was working. Hence, we shifted him to this school,” the BEO said.

The BEO said Manjunath still had five years of service.
