Heavy downpour in City leaves its trademark trail
While pedestrians ducked for cover from the rains, in many parts, slow moving traffic frustrated the motorists. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) recorded 14 tree falls across the City including those in Basaveshwarnagar, HAL, Mathikere and other parts of the City. Water logging was reported from Lalbagh road, JC Road and Mission Road.
Power shutdown
In Ashoknagar, Cook’s Town and Eastern parts of the City power shutdown was reported on Tuesday evening. Complaints were pouring in from residents to Deccan Herald after no response was received from the BESCOM officials.
Repeated efforts to contact BESCOM from this newspaper fell on deaf ears as most officials including BESCOM MD, Tushar Girinath did not respond. While the rainfall in terms of millimetre was low, the gusty wind caused heavy damage in the City.
Bangalore City received only 4.7 mm of rainfall with the Airport area receiving 6.8 mm. The Meteorological Department, in the meantime, has said that a cyclone storm which is passing over the Arabian sea is the cause for the havoc in the City.
“A deep depression in the Arabian sea is the cause of the heavy downpour in the City. The Cyclone is likely to cause thunder showers in the City over the next few days”, Met sources said. With the monsoon already knocking on the doors, the State is expected to receive heavy downpour in the coming week.
