<p>A smog tower created by a startup at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) could be set up at 15 major traffic choke points in Bengaluru. </p>.<p>Nutan Labs, a nanotechnology startup incubated at the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering, demonstrated the unit to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Tuesday at Hudson Circle.</p>.<p>According to the BBMP, the machine uses nanotechnology to absorb the polluted air which it purifies using nanoparticles. It can purify 15,000 CFM of air using 10 stages of advanced filtration system. “The tower can absorb PM 2.5, PM 10, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxide and other hazardous materials.”</p>.<p>“The machine can purify 15,000 cubic feet of air per minute,” the BBMP said in a statement. </p>.<p>The machine will operate in 11 stages, absorbing hazardous elements, including small particulate matter, airborne toxic gases which discharge clean air. The machine operates on 11 kW of power. </p>.<p>A real-time review of how the smog tower works is being carried out by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board. </p>
