<p class="title">The city will play host to a month-long Khadi Utsav, starting January 2, Small Scale Industries Minister S R Srinivas announced on Saturday. The exhibition-cum-sale will be held at Freedom Park till January 31.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“We expect footfall to cross 1.5 lakh and business worth Rs 50 crore by way of sales of khadi and village industry products,” Srinivas told a news conference. “So far, we have received confirmation on participation from 144 khadi sellers and village industries.” </p>.<p class="bodytext">MSME secretary Rajender Kumar Kataria said the government was working towards enabling khadi wear to be sold online. “In the first phase, we will put in place a module for MSME products to be sold online. For khadi, we have tied up with the National Institute of Fashion Technology to train khadi weavers on design. In the second phase, we plan to sell khadi products online.” The government is also setting up two khadi plazas at Bengaluru and Belagavi, he added.</p>
