<p>According to local residents, the draining of lake started last week with the demolition of the lake bund, surreptitiously. Anand, a local resident, said he was witness to the act when he was walking along the lake. <br /><br />He stays in a house just opposite the lake. Anand approached the Palike ward office with a complaint, only to be turned away.<br /><br />Apathetic officials<br /><br />“I saw some workers trying to break the bund and rushed to the ward office located opposite the lake. The officials were indifferent to my appeal.” Anand said.<br /><br />Green activists too suspect that the work may have been on for a week. <br /><br />“It may be possible as rupturing the embankment is not an easy task” said Dinesh, an activist. <br /><br />It is learnt that the local BBMP corporator took action on Tuesday night to cover the breach and stop the draining of water. <br /><br />Dinesh said the breach was more or less covered on Wednesday.<br /><br />Complaint lodged<br /><br />The Palike is said to have lodged a complaint against the “miscreants” who damaged the embankment. <br /><br />M C Prakash, BBMP Chief Engineer (South) said police protection had been sought for the lake till the resolution of the matter.</p>
