<p>A government college lecturer and his friends have been booked for outraging the modesty of a woman and assaulting two people who questioned his behaviour.</p>.<p class="bodytext">At about 9.30 pm on July 11, Tarun (name changed), his sister and a friend were heading to their house in Madura Nagar in Varthur.</p>.<p class="bodytext">When Tarun’s vehicle was between Sorahunase and Valepur Main Road, Vijay Raj — a lecturer — and his friends followed his bike.</p>.<p class="bodytext">When Tarun slowed down to let them pass, Raj and his friends levelled with him and passed lewd comments at the woman. The accused also followed them for half a kilometer.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Tarun and his friend stopped their bikes and questioned Raj and others about their behaviour. Heated arguments and abuses led to a brawl, in which Raj thrashed Tarun and his friend, while also slapping the woman for trying to pull away her brother.</p>.<p class="bodytext">During the incident, the accused pulled at the woman’s clothes and outraged her modesty, the police said.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Raj and his associates then thrashed Tarun’s friend, who bravely fended off their attack, but suffered a fracture to his leg, besides other injuries. They received treatment at a hospital, following which Tarun went to the Whitefield police station to register a complaint.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The following morning, Raj and his mother visited Tarun’s house and fell at his mother’s feet to apologise for the incident. But Tarun decided to pursue legal action.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The Whitefield police booked Raj and his companions under IPC sections pertaining to outraging the modesty of a woman, voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation and a few related sections.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“We are on the lookout for Vijay Raj and the others, who have absconded and have switched off their phones,” a police officer said.</p>
