<p>Few college-based events give an opportunity to students to showcase their hobbies. ‘Hobby Day’, a unique effort by the department of computer application of PES Institute of Technology, was organised to encourage students to take up a hobby.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The objective was to provide a platform to the students to showcase their hidden creative talents and the event went on successfully as a number of students took part. <br />Coin collection, stamp collection, paper craft, drawing, sketching, ‘origami and kirigami’, poetry, photography, model making, handwriting analysis, reverse writing, mirror image writing, painting, tattooing, ‘anime’, craft work and many more hobbies were showcased. All the participants were enthusiastic and excited to share their hobby with their friends and judges. <br /><br />Nikhil, who won the first place for his hobby of origami and kirigami, was thrilled. “It is great to be recognised by the judges and I am glad to know that there are people who like my hobby. This competition gave me a platform to showcase something that I have been doing very passionately. I will continue pursuing this hobby,” he noted.<br />Santosh S, a second-year BCA student, secured the second place for his huge collection of coins and stamps based on a common theme — elephant.<br /><br /> Shreyas from second-year business management received the ‘Best Voted’ award as he got the most number of votes for his hobby. The event commenced with an introductory welcome note by the event co-ordinator Santosh Katti. More than 40 students took part and showcased their hobby while more than 50 faculty members and around 500 students visited and enjoyed the talent show.<br /><br />A short movie titled ‘A Day Without Money’, directed by <br />a team of students, was screened as part of the event and Arpita, a BCA student, displayed her passion towards acting by showing clips of the television shows that she had acted in since childhood.<br /><br />Students noted that the event was not only interesting but very different from the other programmes conducted in college. They got an opportunity to see different types of hobbies which also made them aware about the forms of art that exist in different countries.<br /><br />“I had heard about origami but kirigami is something I learnt about only after seeing Nikhil’s hobby,” said Dixit, a student.</p>
