<p>Bangaloreans, facing noise and air pollution in their neighbourhood from construction activities and other civic works, can heave a sigh of relief as the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has sprung into action.<br /><br /></p>.<p>As a first step, the Palike has kept the control room numbers of all zones open to residents for receiving complaints about such activities.<br /><br />In the last one week, the control room received quite a few complaints from the public about noise pollution caused by construction of buildings even at late night, dumping of construction debris, nuisance caused due to drilling of borewells after 10 pm, among others.<br /><br />“A few days ago, a resident of Uttarahalli complained about the car garage and how it was turning out to be a nuisance in the neighbourhood. When we did further inquiry, we found that the owner of the garage did not have license. Hence, we took steps to shut them down. If the builders want to construct after 10 pm, they have to take prior permission from us,” Bommanahalli Zone Joint Commissioner N Muniraju said.<br /><br />Similarly, Mahadevapura control room on Monday morning received a complaint from Shobha, resident of Whitefield, about the building owner carrying out construction work at night.<br /><br />According to Palike sources, Palike Commissioner M Lakshminarayana issued a public notice recently, and directed eight zonal joint commissioners to take stern action against people causing disturbances to their neighbours and use heavy-duty machineries beyond prescribed time.<br /><br />Lakshminarayana said construction works must be carried out only between 6 am and 10 pm.<br /><br />During construction work, the building must be covered with plastic or tarpaulin so that neighbours are not troubled and to avoid air pollution. Action will be taken against those who do not follow the guidelines.<br /><br />He maintained that while construction related complaints will be handled by Palike, grievances related to borewell drilling would be dealt by Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board ( BWSSB) and directions will be issued to them.</p>
