<p>A 44-year-old homemaker from Raichur was successfully given a heart transplant at the Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research.</p>.<p class="bodytext">This is the second successful heart transplant at the government-run autonomous institute.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The homemaker was suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy for the past 2 years and was advised heart transplantation by many specialists. </p>.<p class="bodytext">The transplant would have been expensive for the homemaker at corporate hospitals as she hails from a farmers’family. She, therefore, registered with “Jeeva Sarthakathe”, a government agency that coordinates organ transplants.</p>.<p class="bodytext">She underwent a series of tests at the hospital and was lucky to get a donor heart within three months. She received the heart from a brain-dead patient whose organs were retrieved after the family consented for organ donation. </p>.<p class="bodytext">The heart was brought to Jayadeva hospital within 21 minutes after retrieval as Bengaluru city police created a “green corridor” for its quick transport. The woman is on the mend following the transplant and her vital parameters are stable. She was discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Director of the Institute Dr C N Manjunath said Jayadeva hospital is equipped to perform advanced heart procedures at an affordable price.</p>.<p class="bodytext">A team headed by Prof Seetharama Bhat that included anaesthesiologist Dr N Manjunath, surgeons Dr Girish Gowda, Dr Chandana and Dr Divya M, cardiologists Dr L Sridhar and Dr Ravimath conducted the transplant.</p>
