Shimmer in the evening
Broadly speaking, a short dress consists of a skirt with an attached matching bodice, with or without sleeves and is usually 1-2 inches above the knee. Designer Hasya Chandana talks about silk and satin dresses, which are embellished and can be worn by women of every size. The embellishments can be of a variety of metals with a touch of silver and pearl.
“They are essentially evening-wear dresses,” she says.
“All these dresses are well-fitted and made for all body types,” informs Hasya. She says that the colour and cut of the dress are essential and change with every body type.
“When it comes to a woman with a large built, one should pick up dresses with patterns on the fabric,” she says. “As far as the neckline is concerned, an empire neckline looks nice,” she adds. “One can also go for box pleats and flowy dress,” she informs.
The personality of an individual is important while selecting the colour of the dress. “On a large-built woman, red would look nice. Dark colours cover up a lot and so one should opt for them,” she says. “Some of the other preferred colours are olive green and electric dark blue,” she adds.
On the other hand, women with thin or medium frame can look for a layered exterior. “I would add layers to the dress for someone really thin and colours like yellow and orange would look well,” says Hasya. “And medium-built women can wear almost anything,” she adds. She informs that one can also play around with the neckline, going for a strapless or a nice V neckline. “Colours like red would go well on such women,” says Hasya.
Hasya informs that rich material is used for making the dress. She also says since the dresses are already embellished, the accessories can be kept to a minimal. “You can go for some dull silver jewellery which would look good. But wear only the earrings not the bracelet,” she advises. As far as the footwear is concerned, Hasya says that heels work the best. “You should go for a good pair of stilettos because they not only look nice but would add height to you,” she informs.

Suchi Roy, who works as a marketing professional, says that she is quite fond of short dress that can be worn for parties or hanging out with friends. “I usually go for colours like yellow, black and pink when it comes to short dresses,” she says.
“While cotton works well for day dress, for evening wear a material which has shimmer looks good,” she says. “I usually wear them with heels and take along a good shrug or stole to complete the look,” she adds. Suchi informs that accessories are best if kept minimum. “I just wear a nice pair of earrings,” she says.
