Students found dead near railway track
The dead, Naveen Jose (18) and Jumana (19), were both natives of Kerala. Naveen was a third semester student of Master of Tourism Administration (MTA) at KLE Society’s S Nijalingappa College, Rajajinagar, while Jumana was a first semester student of Electronics and Communications at the MVJ College of Engineering, K G Halli. She had joined the college only four months ago.
Naveen was staying with his brother and mother at Lal Bahadur Shastri Nagar in HAL area, while Jumana was residing in Whitefield with her parents.
The police claimed that they died when they came under a running train. But Naveen’s relatives suspected the incident to be a murder.
According to the police, around 6 pm on Wednesday, Naveen told his friend Joel that he would be going out to meet Jumana. However, when he failed to return home even after 8 pm, Joel tried to get in touch with him on his cellphone. When their efforts went in vain and the phone kept ringing, he along with Naveen’s brother lodged a complaint with the HAL police, late at night.
“We completed the last paper of the third semester on Thursday evening. He requested me to drop him at Marathalli as he wanted to meet Jumana,” Joel told Deccan Herald.
“He promised to join me at our cousin’s place at Kundalahalli along with Jumana. He called me at 7.15 pm to tell me that he would be reaching in about 10-15 minutes. When they failed to turn up even after 8 pm, I tried contacting him, but the cellphone kept ringing. There was no response from Jumana as well. We thought something was wrong and lodged a complaint with the police,” he added.
According to Sharath, another friend, Naveen and Jumana liked each other. Jumana was from Ernakulam, and had moved to Bangalore recently, while Naveen, from Wayanad came to Bangalore last year.
Jumana had appeared for her practical examinations on Wednesday and was supposed to appear for theory papers on Thursday, Girish B M, Principal of MVJ College of Engineering, told Deccan Herald.
The railway police informed HAL police about two bodies lying beside the railway track under the Marathalli flyover. HAL police called Naveen’s relatives to the spot to identity the bodies, the railway police said.
After the post mortem at Bowring Hospital, the bodies were handed over to the relatives.
