<p class="bodytext">Those opting to build houses at their own sites should complete the construction within four months of the release of the first instalment of an amount of Rs two lakh, Kodagu Additional Deputy Commissioner P Shivaraju said.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“Among the many families who had lost houses during the natural calamity witnessed in the month of August, 54 families had volunteered to construct houses on their sites,” the additional deputy commissioner said, while chairing a meeting at the deputy commissioner’s hall in Madikeri on Thursday.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The district administration will release Rs 2 lakh as the first instalment. The work on the houses should be completed within four months after the release of the funds, he said.</p>.<p class="CrossHead">‘Follow rules’</p>.<p class="bodytext">“The construction of the houses should strictly adhere to government norms. The pending amount will be released based on the progress of the work,” the ADC said.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Assistant Commissioner T Javaregowda said that the houses should be built in an area not exceeding 5.75 square feet. “The land should be registered in the name of the beneficiary. Also, it is a requirement that the plot is ideal for the construction of a house and should be certified by the respective village accountants,” he stated.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The officer said that a total fund of Rs 9.85 lakh will be released in four instalments. He added that Rs two lakh will be released in the first instalment for foundation work and Rs two lakh each will be released during the lintel-level. The remaining amount will be released during the roof-level, he added.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“No objection certificates (NOC) will be issued by the gram panchayats within a week. The revenue department will certify the list of beneficiaries. The GPRS-based photographs on each phase of the construction should be submitted without any delay,” Javaregowda said.</p>.<p class="CrossHead">Extension of time sought</p>.<p class="bodytext">Many natural calamity victims urged the district administration to extend the deadline as it would be difficult to carry out the construction work during the monsoon.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Tahsildar Govindaraju was present during the meet.</p>
