<p>The city police have decided to launch a drive to ensure that all heavy vehicles, including buses, possess with ‘Pollution Under Control’ certificates.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Speaking at a phone-in programme, City Police Commissioner T R Suresh said the drive will be conducted strictly at Clock Tower, Hampanakatta, Navabharath Circle and other places. Already, awareness is being created among the vehicles drivers. Diesel-run vehicles are more polluting when compared to the vehicles which use petrol. Cases will be registered against vehicles found flouting the rules, he said.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The police commissioner said that passengers will be allowed to board the bus in front of Clock Tower for one week on an experimental basis.</p>.<p class="bodytext">A caller said that the passengers should be allowed to board the buses from Lady Goschen Hospital to Light House Hill. Suresh said that passengers will not be allowed to board the bus at the signal.</p>.<p class="bodytext">When a citizen brought the issue of bus conductors failing to issue tickets, the police commissioner said that a drive will be conducted against the bus conductors who do not issue tickets.</p>.<p class="bodytext">A caller said that footpaths and parking lots have been encroached upon at Ambedkar Circle, Bejai Anegundi, Kankanady, Moodbidri, Urwa Store, Kottara, Mannagudde, Thokkottu, Ganjimutt and Central Market. The parking of the vehicles is causing inconvenience to the movement of pedestrians. The police commissioner directed the traffic police to take action in this regard.</p>.<p class="bodytext">When a caller said that police vehicles are parked on Jail Road, Suresh said that police vehicles can be parked inside jail premises.</p>.<p class="bodytext">DYFI leader Imthiyaz said that a child has been debarred from the school after a parent complained during the phone-in programme.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The child was admitted to a school in Gurupura. The parent of the child had appealed to the school head to ask the school bus driver to help the child in crossing the road at Kaikamba, which was declined by the school authorities. The parent of the child, in turn, had brought the issue to the notice of the police commissioner during a phone-in programme. The police had asked the school to take measure in this regard. Enraged over the incident, the school had debarred the child, Imthiyaz charged.</p>
