<p>‘Gaylaxy,’ said to be the first of its kind mobile application for gay community in the country, was officially launched in the City on Saturday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Sukhdeep Singh, founder of a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgenders (LGBT) website and e-magazine, also called as ‘Gaylaxy’ said: “The app has been currently launched for Android phones, but will soon follow it up with applications for iOS and Windows devices also. The application features news and articles from our website pertaining to Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, literature, science and health, LGBT events and other issues. There are no downloading or subscription charges as we want to reach out to a large number of people.”<br /><br />Addressing presspersons, he said the idea to introduce a mobile application was floated by him and the members handling the website six months ago.<br /><br />“Our proposal to come up with an application strengthened further, when the Supreme Court verdict on Section 377 was passed in December. The first prototype version of the application was developed by us the same month. It was improvised later and released on February 14, unofficially,” added Singh.<br /><br />Apurv Gupta, who takes care of the website and application, maintained that their next step was to make Gaylaxy application available in all mobile devices. “We plan to develop the app into an interactive social platform that shall keep the community updated about any event happening in their area as well,” he added. <br /><br />In their effort towards going mobile, the website was also made available on news reading application called “Plash.”<br /><br />“The application already has 200 downloads. There is a steady increase in traffic through mobile phone each day,” the website team said.
