The controversy erupted with Patil announcing that all  film-related activities would be stalled from December 1.  What irked the executive committee members, including KFCC Vice-President Rockline Venkatesh, was that the president arrived at a decision, without taking the members into confidence.

On Wednesday, Patil organised the executive committee meeting where the members demanded his resignation once again which he turned down. With this, members like Sa Ra Govind and Nagaraj tendered their resignation. Even before Rockline Venkatesh put in his papers, Patil walked out of the meeting. The members, led by Venkatesh and Sa Ra Govind, came out of the building shouting slogans against Patil.

Speaking to mediapersons later, Sa Ra Govind said Patil had to resign as he took the decision unilaterally without consulting the members. “There were issues in the film industry, but closing it down is not a solution. It would hit those hard who are solely dependent on this industry. It is also not in favour of Kannada language. Many people are opposed to this idea,” said Sa Ra Govind.

Rockline Venkatesh said he would not sit quiet until Basanth Kumar Patil resigns.
“Solution to the problems faced by the ailing Kannada film industry is not its closure. Problems can be resolved by sitting together and taking some concrete steps. Didn’t Jayamala run the KFCC successfully?” questioned Venkatesh.

Film producer-turned-corporator Munirathna questioned  Patil’s decision. He said, even after several generations, the film industry would remain intact. “The clouds of uncertainty in the film industry are for short term,” he added.
