Iyer was suffering from age-related diseases for the past few months and was admitted to hospital on July 4, from where he was discharged three days ago. <br /><br />People from different walks of life, including Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda, Janata Dal (Secular) leader P G R Sindhia and Congress leader R V Deshpande visited his Shankar Puram residence to pay their last respects. <br /><br />His nephew performed the last rites at Chamarajpet cremation ground in the presence of a large number of people who had assembled to bid adieu to the departed soul. Iyer had served as a State minister for housing and urban development, Bangalore City Mayor, deputy chairman of Legislative Council and Member of Parliament.<br /><br />Sindhia who was closely associated with Iyer said: “He was honest to his conviction and the ideals he believed in. He was affectionate and a highly cultured man who won the hearts of the people of Bangalore.”</p>
