<p class="bodytext">The Commissioner of Central Tax (GST) and Central Excise, Mangaluru division, Dr M Subramanyam on Monday said that the Mangaluru division has earned revenue immensely in the last one year after the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST).</p>.<p class="bodytext">He was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for Central Tax (GST) and Central Excise Range Offices and Guest House in Udupi.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Subramanyam added: “There would be collection up to Rs 200 crore in the past as the department would target only industrialists with nearly 840 to 890 tax paying units. However post GST, the tax paying units have increased to 1,680 and the collection has reached Rs 3,300 crore.”</p>.<p class="bodytext">“The transition in India was smooth during post GST. There were minimum problems. Speculations enabling negative repercussions have diminished and the policy was formulated to reduce the problems pertaining to consumer rights. As the system is new, there are technical glitches. The government is looking into all possibilities to lessen the glitches and make GST more tax payers friendly,” he said.</p>.<p class="bodytext">On the improvement about the system, he said: “Accountability is a core concern for the idea of quality. This will enable high quality productivity. There has been a lot of transition in the past one year.” </p>.<p class="bodytext">The Central Tax (GST) and Central Excise range offices and guest house will be built at a cost of Rs 4.57 crore with two floors for offices and one floor for the guest house.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The construction is expected to be over in a year.</p>
