<p>Following the aggressive protest by the students of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), MIT Director Kum Kum Garg resigned from her post on Thursday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The students staged a severe protest demanding the resignation of the Director for her ‘insensitive’ remarks over the death of a MIT student on March 10. Ishan Nihalani from Rajasthan, a II year engineering student met with an accident and died in the hospital on Thursday. Ishan was apparently standing on the footboard of the college bus and fell from the moving bus. <br /><br />The students claimed that the overcrowding and rash driving of the bus driver was the reason for his death. When the students informed the matter to the Director and asked her to take action against the bus driver, Garg refused to take action against the driver and responded stating that the student had died because of the irresponsible attitude of the students. <br /><br />Enraged by her remarks, nearly 4,000 students staged a massive protest in Manipal University Campus on Thursday and demanded her resignation. <br /><br />In the backdrop of the protest, MIT Vice Chancellor K Ramanarayan announced that Garg has resigned. Students withdrew the strike after the announcement.</p>
