<p>MLA J R Lobo inspected the ongoing work of Gujjarakere on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, he said minor irrigation department has released Rs 1 crore for work on the water body. He directed officials to drain out water and remove silt from Gujjarakere as soon as possible, to plug flow of sewage into the lake. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The department has begun rejuvenation works, for the third time, at an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore. The same lake was rejuvenated in the past. <br /><br />“Initially we thought it is easy to remove the silt. However, now we have realised that it is not easy. The amount of silt in the lake has not been ascertained. The untimely rain had affected removal of silt. The lake is 20 to 30 ft depth. It would be impossible to remove silt without draining water.” He said dredging maching should be used for removing silt. <br /><br />The MLA directed contractor to complete the work on draining out water in two days. While draining out water, he asked the contractor to look for native fish species. All work on rejuvenation of the lake should be completed within a month. In the backdrop on complaint on sewage entering the lake, the MLA promised to provide alternative arrangement to prevent flow of sewage in the storm water drain adjacent to Gujjarakere.</p>
