MUDA scam: Inquiry commission formed to probe irregularities

According to the order, High Court judge (retd) Justice P N Desai will head the single-member commission. The commission will be required to complete the inquiry and submit its report to the state government within six months.

Bengaluru: Just hours before the 10-day legislature session, the Karnataka government on Sunday formed an inquiry commission to probe the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam.

According to the notification issued by the government late Sunday night, Justice P N Dessai, a retired Karnataka High Court judge, will head the commission and he has been directed to submit the report within six months.

The move at the eleventh hour seems to be designed to blunt the designs of Opposition BJP-JD(S), which was planning to target the ruling Congress during the legislature session that is set commence from Monday.

The Opposition BJP had been continuously targeting the CM, accusing him of misusing his position to get prime plots in Mysuru.

The CM himself had claimed that his wife’s property, measuring 3.16 acres and acquired by the MUDA to develop a layout, was now valued at Rs 62 crore.

On Monday, the BJP is organising a protest in front of Valmiki statue to condemn the alleged transfer of funds in the Valmiki Corporation and the MUDA plot case.
