<p class="title">For the first time, the 126-year-old Sri Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens (Mysuru Zoo), celebrated ‘World Giraffe Day’, on Thursday.</p>.<p class="bodytext">As part of the celebration, the zoo authorities had displayed Information Boards’ and ‘Fun Facts Boards’ about giraffes in front of the giraffe enclosure. The Zoo Education Officer also conducted several sessions for the visitors and explained the facts and the significance of the tallest terrestrial animal of the world.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Deputy Conservator of Forests and Executive Director of the zoo Siddramappa Chalkapure told DH that the World Giraffe Day is an initiative of Giraffe Conservation Foundation to celebrate the longest-necked animal on the longest day of the year, June 21. “We have taken the initiative to support the cause of the foundation,” he added.</p>.<p class="bodytext">According to Chalkapure, the country has around 30 giraffes, and Mysuru Zoo has seven. No giraffe are found in the forest across the country and only a few zoos have housed the animals. However, Mysuru Zoo is one of the breeding centres of Giraffe, he said.</p>
