Original Shiroor Mutt to be handed over to Sode Mutt

Superintendent of Police Lakshman Nimbargi said that the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report will elaborate on the exact cause of the death of Shiroor Mutt seer Lakshmivara Theertha Swami.

Speaking to media persons here at a phone in-programme, the SP said that the postmortem report has not concluded anything clearly about the seer’s death. Hence, the report from the FSL in Mangaluru is awaited. A request has been made to look into the case as early as possible, he added.

Nimbargi said the original mutt in Shiroor will be handed over to the Sode Vadiraj Mutt shortly. Dwandwa Sode Mutt is the in-charge mutt as per the tradition till a successor to Shiroor mutt is appointed, he said.

He said as the eight-member team led, by the Additional SP and DySP, is investigating the case and the result is expected at the earliest.

Manipal murder case

The SP said that the murder of Guruprasad Bhat, owner of a recreation club in Manipal, would not have taken place if the special committee, deciding over the invoking of Goonda Act, had approved against prime accused Ranjith Pinto and Sujith Pinto. The police already had sent the list of the duo to be charged under the Goonda Act. However, the committee delayed, the SP said and added that all the accused in the case are remanded in judicial custody till August 16.

The cause for the murder is the enmity that resulted out of personal insult. The accused were angered as Bhat had abused them and their mother, she said.

Rs 3 lakh fine

Nimbargi said the Police Department has collected Rs 3 lakh as fine during a special drive held from July 6 to 19. As many as 253 cases against using tinted glass, 2,020 cases for not wearing seat belts and 359 cases for having unauthorised nameplates on the vehicles were registered in these 15 days.

After the previous phone in-programme on July 6, 28 Matka cases were registered and 30 persons have been arrested. Three gambling cases were registered and 21 were arrested. One was arrested in an illegal liquor sale case. Six are arrested in six NDPS

case.

As many as 169 cases are registered under COTPA, 47 for drunken driving, 295 for shrill horns, 2862 for riding without helmets, 107 cases for over speed and 6872 cases for other crimes under Motor Vehicle Act, he explained.

The SP said that as the extradition charges are charged against the Matka culprits, the number of the Matka cases has come down, he added.

Other complaints

Most of the cases received were related to the unruly behaviour of youths reported in different places in the district either in an inebriated state or under normal circumstances.

The complaints were received from Ambalpadi, Mandarthi, Saligrama, Amabagilu and Brahamavar.

There was a complaint on increasing cattle thefts in Padubidri.

Replying to another complaint for delay in issuances of licenses in RTO office, the SP said that he will take up the issue with the DC and the RTO.
