<p>Power generation from Unit II of Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) resumed on Tuesday, Karnataka Power Corporation Managing Director Yogendra Tripathi said.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Power generation in Unit 2 and 8 of RTPS had come to a halt for the past two days due to shortage of coal supply from Mahanadi Coalfields in Odisha, due to heavy rain in the region leading to decline in coal production.<br /><br />Coal supply improves<br />Tripathi, who is also in-charge secretary of Bellary district, said Unit 8 of RTPS will begin generating power in another two days. The coal supply situation has now improved, he added.<br /><br />He said compared to last year RTPS has generated 30 per cent more power this year. He said two units of RTPS have become old due to wear and tear, and are in need of repair. The repair would take nine to 12 months, he added.<br /><br />Tripathi said these two units, which require repairs, generate 420 MW of power. As the State is facing a power crisis it would not be possible to undertake repair works under the present circumstances, he said.<br /><br />He said in the coming days, a package will be formulated to undertake the repair works in phases.<br /><br />Yermaras project<br />He said that the work on the setting up of the 2x800 MW Yermaras Thermal Power station, located at Yermaras village near Raichur City, will begin soon. The project, which requires some more land, is expected to generate power by 2014, he added.<br /><br />He said discussions will take place in connection with the safety measures and other technical aspects of the project with Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. Tripathi said that the 3-MW solar power plant near Yapaladinni village in Raichur taluk will be commissioned soon.<br /><br /></p>
