<p>Unveiling the statue of Sangolli Rayanna on Tuesday, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said that we need to build our nation based on the principles of Sangolli Rayanna, who preached bravery and honour for the unity of the nation.<br /><br />Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddaramaiah proposed that the name of the City Railway Station be changed to Sangolli Rayanna Railway station.<br /><br />“While Rayanna fought the freedom struggle against the British and we fought for the installation of his statue, there is still one more fight left to be fought. We have already sent three letters to the Central Government requesting them to approve the change of name for the Bangalore City Railway Station to Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station.”<br /><br />The Congress leader said that the proposal of the Sangolli Rayanna Station was not because he was a member of the Backward Caste, but due to the commitment and bravery towards the nation. <br /><br />Sainik academy<br /><br />He requested the State to have a dialogue with the Central Government to ensure that a Sainik Academy is constructed on the lines of the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune. “We had the proposal made during 2005-06 to have a similar such sainik academy here in honour of the brave General who was among the first to raise his voice against the British,” said Siddaramaiah. It is learnt that the CM has agreed to look into the matter as early as possible. <br /><br />The grand ceremony organised by the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) was attended in huge numbers leading to minor traffic hold ups in the morning along the busy Majestic area. <br /><br />The statue of the Rayanna made in 2006 and kept under wraps for nearly four years, stood tall in full glare at the heart of the City. At the event, the sculptor of the Bronze statue, Prabhakar Dongre from Kolhapur was felicitated by Yeddyurappa.<br /></p>
