<p class="title">A full-fledged shandy market has been constructed in front of Mount Rosary Church, at Santhekatte in Udupi.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The work on the market has been completed and is likely to be inaugurated shortly. The shandy was held every week near Santhekatte Junction on NH-66.</p>.<p class="bodytext">This crated traffic congestion, for the motorists traveling to Udupi and Mangaluru. With the construction of the market, the traffic congestion on the road will be a thing of the past.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The new shandy market will benefit both the sellers and customers. Earlier, the farm produce and other items were sold on the roadside itself.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The foundation for the shandy market was laid in 2018. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 1 crore.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The plinth area of the market is 17,500 square feet, with designated parking space. There is also an arrangement made for the flow of wastewater.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Electricity connection, interlock and water connections have been provided to the market. Seating arrangements have been made for 85 people to sell their produce.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Assistant Engineer Durgaparasad said, “The shandy market will be handed over to the revenue section of CMC shortly.” </p>.<p class="bodytext">Sellers are happy over new shandy market. “The old shandy market was lacking basic facilities. It was difficult to sell produce during monsoon,” said a seller.</p>
