<p class="title">Student Islamic Organisation of India (SIO) and Welfare Party of India jointly organised a protest against 10% reservation bill for economically weaker sections in general category, approved by BJP-led NDA government, here at War Memorial in Ajjarakad on Saturday.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Speaking on the occasion, SIO National Advisory Committee member Sadat Khalifa alleged that the measure taken by the government was unscientific and purely a vote bank gimmick.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He said that bill interfered with the basic structure of the Constitution. He said that the bill has been introduced keeping an eye on the general election.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“It is a confession of the failure of the Union government to create employment in the past four-and-a-half-years,” he added.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Sadat added that schemes like MGNREGS, Jan Dhan and Public Distribution System (PDS) should have been given impetus by the Centre to alleviate poverty in the nation. But the government has disturbed the downtrodden community in the society by passing the quota bill, he said.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Stressing on the elimination of caste hierarchy, he maintained that SIO would support abolition of reservation system in the country if the caste system was eliminated which would ensure equality among all castes.</p>
