Few physically challenged persons were identified as the endosulfan victims in Kokkada, Patrame and Nidle and were receiving monthly allowance from the government.

However, the government has recently deleted few names from the list and has stopped paying the amount to such beneficiaries. As a result, several families are in distress.

The names of about 10 to 15 beneficiaries have been deleted from the list and these families have not received the allowance since 11 months now.

Sharada, Addai Yashodam Kurle and Thimmaiah Malekudiya in Upparapalike have been depending on the allowance for a living.

With the government stopping the allowance, they have been left in a lurch. The beneficiaries whose names have been deleted from the list have complained to the officials and in return they have been told that the applications submitted by them were not in order.

Now, these deprived beneficiaries fear that eventually all those facilities that they have been receiving from the Government will also be stopped.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Endosulfan Santhrastara Horata Samithi President Sridhar Gowda said the officials are neglecting the beneficiaries. All these victims are BPL families.

The monthly allowance was source of livelihood for them. “We will have to stage protest, if the authorities fail to rectify the problem at the earliest.”

Belthangady Tahsildar Kusuma Kumari said that her office has prepared a list of those beneficiaries whose names were deleted from the list and the same has been sent to the DC for approval.

“We will take all measures to ensure that the beneficiaries get the honorarium.”
