<p>Kodagu Additional Deputy Commissioner P Shivaraju directed the officials concerned to initiate steps to supply water to different places in the district facing the problem of acute shortage of drinking water.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He was presiding over a meeting on drinking water and drought management at the deputy commissioner’s office in Madikeri on Thursday.</p>.<p class="bodytext">He said, “It should be seen that there is no shortage of drinking water for the people and animals. In case of complaints, the tahsildar and engineers should immediately attend to the same.”</p>.<p class="bodytext">He further directed officials to identify villages facing acute shortage of drinking water.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Necessary measures should be taken towards providing fodder for cattle, opening of ‘gaushalas’ (cow shelters) and setting up fodder bank, he directed.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The ADC directed the concerned officers to take measures to prevent losses due to rains. There are possibilities of heavy rains in the days to come. Therefore, officials should visit the villages affected by the natural calamity and gather information on the current status, along with formulating plans for the future.</p>.<p class="bodytext">“The work on the houses meant for the victims of natural calamity should be expedited,” he urged.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Zilla Panchayat Drinking Water and Sanitation Department engineer Revannanavar said that the three taluks of the district had been declared as drought-hit and maximum attention was being paid to supplying drinking water.</p>.<p class="bodytext">Animal Husbandry Department Deputy Director Tammaiah said that through the Gram Panchayats, arrangements were in place including setting up water troughs for cattle in villages.</p>.<p class="bodytext">District Health Officer Dr K Mohan and City Municipal Council Commissioner M L Ramesh were present at the meeting among others.</p>
