Thundershowers continue to lash North Karnataka districts

Thundershowers, coupled with high-intensity wind, continued to lash several North Karnataka districts on Friday.

Downpour, accompanied by strong winds, affected normal life in Belagavi city and surrounding villages. The storm brought down a few full-grown trees and over 20 electricity poles in the city, plunging parts of Belagavi city into the dark.

The vehicular traffic in the city was disrupted for hours due to inundated roads, tree falls and uprooting of electricity poles in Hanuman Nagar, Jadhav Nagar, NCC Office and other localities.

Several houses in parts of the city have suffered partial damage in the rain.

The showers exposed lack of preparedness of Belagavi Municipal Corporation. The clogged drains left many roads flooded with rainwater.

The Hescom officials and the staff have began operations to repair the lines and restore power supply on a war scale.

Rain accompanied by thunder, lightning and gusty wind lashed parts of Kalaburagi district on Friday evening.

The rain on the first day of June has left farmer smiling as it helps in sowing. The rainfall led to waterlogging in many fields.

While heavy rain lashed Chincholi taluk, Kalagi and Jewargi taluks recorded moderate rain. Kalaburagi city received light showers.

In Chincholi taluk, Chimmanachod, Gaarampalli, Gadikeshwar, Chimmaeedalai, Dastapur, Sulepet and other places received good rainfall for 2 hours.

A checkdam between Chimmaeedalai and Dastapur villages was overflowing following the downpour. This apart many seasonal rivulets in the taluk were overflowing.

After a gap of almost two days, Dharwad city received mild showers on Friday evening. Overcast conditions prevailed from the morning and the humidity too was high. However, the evening showers brought respite to the people.

Following rains, the roads were waterlogged and the motorists had a tough time in negotiating flooded roads.
