<p>Frequent protests demanding road asphaltation, underground drainage repair and clearing of garbage have become synonymous with the Ward no 8, but the authorities seem to be totally indifferent to the issues. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The Muslim-dominated ward is spread across Mekke Circle, MB Road, Bamboo Bazar Road, parts of Gulpet, part of Phool Shah Mohalla and Rahmath Nagar. <br /><br />During the widening of MB Road, traders had protested demanding immediate repair of underground drainage. <br /><br />Besides, the residents here also held demonstrations and road blocks several times urging asphaltation of a stretch of road that connects Mekke Circle with the District Police Superintendent’s residence. Though, the authorities have asphalted the stretch, people complain of substandard quality of work. Bamboo Bazar and Mekke Circle Roads indicate the East and West borders of the ward where the roads are crying for immediate attention. <br /><br />No repair<br /><br />Since many years, Bamboo Bazar (connecting MB Road and Srinivaspur tollgate) has not seen asphaltation. But, ironically, many roads in the interior areas of the ward are in good condition as they have been are cemented. <br /><br />The work on drain is nearing completion. Interestingly, works on the main canal (Raja Kaluve) in Bamboo Bazar and on another canal near Deputy Commissioner’s office were taken up on the same day. The work on canal near the DC’s office is already over while the work near the Bamboo Bazar is far from completion. <br /><br />The unasphalted stretch is dotted with mechanic shops, carpenter shops and other business settlements. <br /><br />Often lorries are parked on either sides of the road, leaving little space for other vehicles and even people to move. Shopkeepers here complain that with no asphaltation, dust settles on their products, even fruits, and it is difficult to conduct business here. <br /><br />Their grouse is that Corporator Jyoti, being a resident of Bamboo Bazar, has never attempted to asphalt the road. <br /><br />Even the stretch connecting Mekke Circle to SP’s residence is in no better condition. Last year, the residents here had protested demanding immediate repair of asphaltation. Although the civic body did asphalt the road here, in just six months, the road was completely worn out. <br /><br />Cleanliness has taken a backseat in the ward as piles of garbage can be seen in Bamboo Bazar road and Kakisha Mohalla. But contrary to it, Gulpet is fairly clean as most of the roads here are asphalted. <br /><br />Residents here complain that in spite of constructing a bridge on the main canal in the town, it is in very poor standard. <br /><br />As the drain water flows through the canal and during monsoon, rainwater with the drain enters the Government School, located at the end of the canal. <br /><br />Attempts by Deccan Herald to contact corporator Jyoti went in vain.</p>
