Water recedes in River Lakshmanatheertha

River Lakshmanatheertha which overflows during the monsoon looks like a canal with the receding water-level. Sand has accumulated in huge quantity in the river.

Water-level in the river has receded drastically and the bed of the river has once again become visible at many places in the district. It has become a common phenomenon that the river gets dry in the month of February itself.

The water from the river submerges paddy fields and rivulets from Srimanagala to Hunsur during the monsoon. Many visit the region to have a glimpse of the overflowing river.

Lakshmanatheertha, which takes birth in Brahmagiri hilly range in Srimangala, flows near Kanoor. Several roads and bridges get submerged when the river overflows during the monsoon, thus disrupting the movement of vehicles.

The beauty of the river in the monsoon has been lost in the summer. Irpu Waterfalls which takes birth from the river never goes dry.

There are coffee plantations on the left and right side of the river that flows from Kurchi to Nittur.

The growers use water from the river to irrigate the plants to blossom in summer. Bunds are constructed at several locations to use the water for irrigation.

The water from the river is not lifted if the region gets bountiful summer showers in March.

The river has dried in Balele Nittur.
