<p class="bodytext rtejustify">The Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) council on Wednesday approved the proposal to revise the water tariff for non-domestic, commercial, bulk and industrial users.</p>.<p class="bodytext rtejustify">The agenda tabled in the council declared that the revised water tariff should have been implemented by July 20, 2011 as according to the guidelines of state government. The water tariff has been left untouched on the directions of MCC Mayor K Bhaskar.</p>.<p class="bodytext rtejustify">The revision of water tariff had become inevitable in order to ensure viability of drinking water supply system, repayment of loans borrowed from ADB (Asian Development Bank), additional payment for the outsourced staff of MCC and increasing maintenance cost.</p>.<p class="bodytext rtejustify">Accordingly, the proposed revised minimum water tariff for non- domestic users is Rs 360 (for 18,000 litre) per month. It was Rs 304 in the past. The proposed water tariff for commercial/industrial is Rs 60 per kilo-litre (it was Rs 52). The minimum tariff per month for 18,000 litre was increased to Rs 730 from Rs 608.</p>.<p class="bodytext rtejustify">The tariff for construction of building is Rs 60 per kilolitre (Rs 52). The minimum monthly tariff for 20,000 litre which was Rs 1,040 was also hiked. The tariff for the supply of water to Mulki TMC and Ullal CMC had been increased from Rs 5 to Rs 7 per kilo-litre. The tariff for supply of water to Bala and Chelyar was hiked to Rs 7 per kilo-litre from Rs 3 kilo-litre.</p>.<p class="bodytext rtejustify">The revised water tariff to Fr Muller Charitable Trust is Rs 7 per kilo-litre from Rs 6 kilo-litre. The government had ordered revision of water tariff once in three years, UGD cess of Rs 15 for domestic, Rs 30 for non-domestic and Rs 60 for commercial/industrial along with the water bill. </p>
