<p>From Tuesday, men who are caught travelling in coaches exclusively reserved for women on the trains would have to pay a fine of Rs 200.<br /><br />Delhi Metro will deploy mobile checking squads to ensure proper compliance and random checking and those who are found flouting the rules will be penalised.<br /><br />The decision comes after wide-spread complaints that men are found travelling in the coaches reserved for women on the Metros.<br /><br />"A fine of Rs 200 for every violation can be imposed with effect from October 26 by the DMRC in case any male passenger is found travelling in the reserved ladies coach of a Metro train," DMRC spokesman Anuj Dayal said.<br /><br />Metro reserved the first coach of every train for women from October 2 and since then there have been incidents of men forcing their way into the special coaches due to over-crowding in the general compartments.<br /><br />This has irked a lot of women and some of them have even asked male passengers in the special coach to go to the general coach.<br /><br />The decision to impose fine has already brought smiles on the faces of women, who regularly use Metro.<br /><br />Rishima Malhotra, a software professional, welcomes the decision and says now she can have a more comfortable ride without being pushed by men.<br /><br />"It is a very good decision. I welcome it and we can hope to have a comfortable ride. Most of the times men barge into the women's coach and stand right in front of us," she says.<br /><br />Dayal said mobile squads will be deployed from Tuesday to check if male passengers are travelling in 'women only' coaches.<br /><br />"Every mobile squad will consist of four to five persons including security personnel," he said, adding that so far mobile squads have imposed penalty on 8,195 passengers for committing various offences such as defacing Metro property, drunkenness, nuisance, spitting etc in Delhi Metro.<br /><br />The amount collected from the fines is Rs 16.41 lakh from November 9, 2008 to September 30, 2010.<br /><br />Children up to 12 years of age accompanying the lady passengers are allowed to travel in the reserved ladies coach.</p>
