Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday filed his nomination papers to contest from the New Delhi constituency, challenging Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on her home turf.

He said the countdown for the end of her 15-year “corrupt rule” has begun. Dikshit, who filed her nomination papers on Thursday, has been representing the constituency – earlier known as the Gole Market constituency – since 1998. With Kejriwal choosing this constituency, it is now set for a three-way battle with Dikshit and Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Vijender Gupta.

Accompanied by his father Govind Ram, mother Geeta, wife Sunita, and hundreds of supporters wearing AAP caps, he filed his nomination papers at Jamnagar House in central Delhi’s Shahjahan Road at around 11:45 am.

“It is set to be a historic election as 15 years of corrupt rule will come to an end. We are campaigning not to make me the chief minister, but to make every citizen feel like the chief minister,” the 45-year-old activist-turned-politician said.
AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal waves to supporters after filing his nomination papers from the New Delhi constituency at Jamnagar House in New Delhi on Saturday.  PTI Kejriwal highlighted that Delhiites are tired and frustrated with corruption in both the state government and municipality.

He further insisted on the real fight in the election to be between the common man and corrupt political parties and not between political parties.
