Kerala court orders cops top probe CM Pinarayi Vijayan's 'life saving act' remark on youth Congress protest

Thiruvananthapuram: A local court in Kerala's Kochi has directed the police to enquire into a petition that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan abetted the assault on Congress workers who staged a protest against him.

Kochi Congress district president, Muhammed Shiyas, who filed the petition, alleged that the Chief Minister had abetted the assault by his security personnel on Congress workers who staged protests against the Chief Minister during the Nava Kerala Sadas outreach programme last year.

The Chief Minister's remark that those were 'life saving acts' to save the Congress workers from being hit by his vehicle amounted to abetting the assault, the petitioner alleged.

Considering the petition, the chief judicial magistrate court asked the police last week to conduct an enquiry into the petition and submit a report. Further steps like registering a case would be decided only on the basis of the enquiry report.

Recently the Alappuzha police had initiated steps to close a case in this regard by stating that there was no evidence for police aggression on Youth Congress workers.
