The murder of politician Baba Siddique in Mumbai right outside the office of his MLA son Zeeshan has sent shockwaves across the country.

In the late 80s and 90s, Mumbai was notorious as a hub of gangsters like Dawood Ibrahim, Abu Salem, Chhota Rajan and others, and shootouts were quite common in the city.

Not only other gangsters, but politicians and people from Bollywood were often targets of these gangsters, whose major source of income was extortion.

T-Series founder Gulshan Kumar was shot and killed in the city, and Rakesh Roshan was shot at and had suffered a bullet injury right outside his office soon after the release of Kaho Na...Pyaar Hai.

After several encounter killings and the police strengthening its grips on the law and order situation, everyone thought the threat had passed. However, shootings outside Salman Khan's Galaxy Apartments and now, the murder of Baba Siddique proves that terror still lurks in the shadows of the city of dreams.

Who are the shooters?

Three persons allegedly shot at Baba Siddique, among which two have been nabbed by the Mumbai Police.

In a statement given to news agency ANI, the police have revealed the duo's names as Gurmail Singh from Haryana and Dharamraj Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh.

The third shooter, Shiva Gautam, is absconding.

Later in the day, the Mumbai Police identified a fourth accused—Mohammad Zeeshan Akhtar. It is unclear if he has been nabbed.

How long were the shooters in Mumbai before the murder?

Police, after interrogating the arrested, have come to the conclusion that the shooters were in Mumbai for close to a month before carrying out the attack.

They were reportedly living in a house in Mumbai's Kurla for a monthly rent of around Rs 14,000.

The trio reportedly received their weapons via a human courier around a fortnight before the shooting. Reports suggest that 9mm pistols were recovered from them.

Mumbai police on Sunday also recovered 28 live cartridges.

How much were the shooters paid to carry out the hit?

NDTV has cited sources within Mumbai Police to reveal that the shooters were paid Rs 50,000 each for carrying out the attack.

How was the shooting carried out?

The accused reportedly arrived at the scene in a scooter. They then waited for a while for their target to arrive. They were being given updates on Siddique's location by another person, police sources told the publication.

A total of six bullets were fired at Siddique, of which four hit the veteran politician in his chest.
