Manoj Jarange ends nine-day fast, gives Maharashtra govt 2-month time to resolve Maratha quota issue

Mumbai: After hectic discussions for over six hours with government delegates, Manoj Jarange-Patil, who was undertaking hunger strike for the past nine days, decided to end the fast and give the Maharashtra government time till January 2, 2024, to give an effective reservation to the Maratha community, which comprises 33 per cent of state’s population.

Jarange-Patil, who is in his forties, took fruit juice and water after a meeting with delegates on Thursday, a day after an all-party meeting urged him to withdraw the fast.

“We want a full reservation and not half reservation,” said Jarange-Patil.

A delegation of retired high court judges Sandeep Shinde, M G Gaikwad and others including officials and Maharashtra ministers met Jarange.
