A man has been arrested in Maharashtra for duping relatives of jail inmates, posing as BJP MLA Ashish Shelar's personal assistant, news agency ANI reported on Monday, quoting Bandra police.
The accused, identified as Amin Irfan Bendrekar, allegedly contacted lawyers, obtained information about their clients and extorted money by promising aid from the state government.
According to the police, further investigation in the matter is under way.
