Malayalam actor-director Nagavally passes away

Venu, a popular actor of the 80s who turned to direction, was suffering from a liver disease for the past few years.

He was 61-years-old and is survived by wife Meera and son Vivek.
Nagavally was the son of noted writer and commentator late Nagavally R S Kurup. After starting his career as an announcer in All India Radio, Venu entered films through “Ulkadal” directed by K G George.

Till date, he has acted in more than 50 films and directed 12 films. Some of his memorable roles were in films like “Yavanika”, “Lekhayude Maranam Oru Flash Back”, “Salini Ente Koottukari”, “Adhaminte Vaariyellu”, “Aaraante Mulla Kochu Mulla” and “Kaazhcha”.
His first directorial venture was in “Sukhamo Devi” and his last one was “Bharya Swantham Suhruth” released in 2009.

A host of people from different walks of life, including leading actors and top political leaders, paid homage to the departed artiste.

Condoling Venu’s death, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said he had contributed to Malayalam filmdom through his several movies, themes of which were in allegiance with the Left. State Culture Minister M A Baby also condoled his death.
