Autopsy reports reveal multiple bullet wounds, lacerations on bodies of 3 killed in Manipur's Jiribam

Guwahati: The autopsy conducted on the bodies of a three-year-old Meitei child, his mother and grandmother, who were allegedly killed by 'Kuki insurgents', revealed multiple bullet wounds and injuries.

The test conducted at the Silchar Medical College Hospital (SMCH) in neighbouring Assam, also stated that there were cuts, fractures in the chest and lacerations on the forearm and other parts of the child's body.

The body of the child, Chingkheinganba Singh was in a state of decomposition and his right eye was missing, it further said.

The body of his mother L Heitonbi Devi, 25, had three bullet wounds in the chest and one in the buttock, said the report. The body of the child's 60-year-old grandmother, Y Rani Devi was found with five bullet wounds in the skull, chest, abdomen, and one in the arm, it further said.

The report, however, concluded saying that the exact cause of death of the three would be known after reports of the chemical analysis samples were submitted by the forensic science laboratory in Guwahati in Assam.

The autopsy of the six bodies were conducted in the SMCH after they were found floating in a river along Jiribam in Manipur and Cachar district in Assam. The autopsy report of the remaining three is yet to be made public.

The six were allegedly abducted by Kuki insurgents in Jiribam district on November 11 during a gunfight with the SRPF and Manipur police and were later killed. Police said at least 10 "armed insurgents" belonging to the Hmar community were found dead after "retaliatory action."

The recovery of the six bodies triggered strong protests in the Meitei-dominate Valley districts on November 15 and 16. The protesters attacked houses of 13 Ministers and MLAs and vandalised or set them on fire alleging the BJP-led government's failure to rescue the six abducted persons. The administration had to clamp curfew, impose curbs on the internet and rush additional central forces in order to check further violence. At least 41 persons have been arrested so far in connection with the arson, police said on Sunday.
