Woman, two-year-old son killed in landslide in Manipur

Guwahati: A mother-son duo were killed and two others were seriously hurt in a landslide in Manipur's Tamenglong district on Monday night.

Several roads in the conflict-hit state also remained snapped due to landslides triggered by heavy rains in the past two days.

Official sources in Manipur said that the incident happened when the house of Rinsinglung Kahmei, a police constable at Dimthanlong area, came under the debris following the landslide.

Kahmei's wife, Duanjangliu and two-year-old son Jaojeangai died on the spot. Kahmei and another member of the family were seriously injured. They were rushed to a hospital in the state capital Imphal.

Expressing sorrow over the incident, Chief Minister N Biren Singh said all necessary help is being provided to the family.

Efforts are under way to restore the roads, officials said.

Alert has also been sounded in other districts as rain continued in the state.
