Telugu star and son of legendary actor Akkineni Nageswar Rao, Nagarjuna, faced the ire of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi government for building a convention centre on encroached land.

.
On Saturday, a team of officials from GHMC, Irrigation Department, revenue, police and others who surveyed the N Convention centre, close to the hi-tech city, found that it was constructed on the bed of the Thammidikunta’ lake.

They ascertained that the convention centre occupied 1.2 acres of the lake’s full tank level and two acres of its buffer zone. The lake is 29.24 acres large.

“The Centre extended to about 1.12 acre inside the Full Tank Level (FTL) of the lake while another two acres of the building falls in the buffer zone of the lake,” said K Vidyasagar, tehsildar of Serilingampally mandal.

The team carried out the survey after the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government asked the GHMC to go after land grabbers, particularly those who purchased land during the 10 years of Congress government.

The government recently razed about 24 structures, as part of its effort to take back land allegedly given away to those close to Congress.

“I have information that at least 25,000 acres of land have been illegally encroached by politicians and their henchmen here, my government will initiate all steps to free the land and utilise it for public welfare,” KCR said at a review meeting.

The chief minister plans to use the land taken from the grabbers to build houses for the middle income groups. He has also asked for a probe on all land allotments made since 2004 to politicians and some senior journalists.

Film Nagar sources said Nagarjuna tried to get an appointment with KCR, but in vain. “The CM refused to meet him,” they said.

The film star even tried to seek an audience with the chief minister through Telangana’s biggest film maker and his friend Dil Raju, but it was too late by then.
