New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Friday announced the revised results of NEET-UG. In contrast to the earlier results only 17 candidates managed to get the top rank, down from the 61 in the first exams.

The Centre was directed to conduct the medical entrance tests among 1563 students by the Supreme Court after these students were given “grace marks” since there were technical delays in their examination centres. One of the key complaints against the exams, mired in controversy and allegations of paper leaks, is that this year there were too many toppers.

Of the 1563 people who were to reappear for the tests, only 813 or 52% students reappeared across seven centres.

After the tests were reconducted, 44 of the 67 candidates who had scored full marks because of the grace marks later fell down to 61. Among the top 100, 17 got the full score of 720, six candidates got 716 and 77 candidates got 715.

While there were reports that the revised NEET-UG results were out, the education ministry in a statement said that it had yet not released the results.

Additionally, in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar, said that there is no plan to discontinue the NEET UG exam.

Earlier this week, the Budget session of the Parliament began on a stormy note when the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, raised the issue of the NEET exams and said that the government was not taking the matter seriously.

Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan, in response, said that there has been no instance of paper leaks in the past seven years.

The CBI is probing alleged irregularities in NEET-UG 2024 and has lodged six FIRs. The NEET-UG is conducted by the National Testing Agency for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions.
