New Delhi: Fifty six Gujarat-based students, including the first rank holder, have approached the Supreme Court against cancellation of the NEET-UG, 2024, and for action against only those who indulged in malpractices.

The joint plea could be considered on July 8, when other petitions for re-test would come up for hearing.

The lead petitioner Siddharth Komla Singla, already qualified in exam held on May 5, this year filed the plea along with other students from Gujarat.

The petitioners claimed re-conducting NEET-UG 2024 would not only be unreasonable and harsh for the honest and hardworking students but also would lead to the infringement of the right to education and therefore be violative of Article 14 of the Constitution.

The petitions sought a direction to the National Testing Agency to identify and punish the candidates who indulged into unfair means during the examination. They also sought that equal action should also be taken by identifying the centres where any compromise to the established guidelines for NEET-UG 2024 examinations has been done.

They contended they had given their 100% dedicatedly to achieve their dream of becoming a doctor after consistent hard work of more than 3-4 years, so the exam should not be cancelled.

The petitioners stated that if the re-test of NEET-UG 2024 occurs, they were afraid that they will have to face hardship and the re-NEET would fail to pass the test of reasonableness.
