Parliament security breach: Plea filed in SC for probe under supervision of retired SC judge

New Delhi: An advocate has filed a plea in the Supreme Court for a probe under the supervision of a retired top court judge, into the incident of Parliament's security breach on December 13, 2023.

In the PIL, advocate Abu Sohel from West Bengal contended that the Parliament security breach was a well-planned and well-coordinated incident carried out by six people on the 22nd anniversary of 2001 Parliament attack.

“It was a complete security lapse as the smoke could have been poisonous more or in place of smoke canisters they could have entered with lethal ammunition which is very much shocking that when a highest house (temple) of the nation wherein the future of the nation is decided, is under stake then the citizens of India are also under stake, resulting the judicial interference,” the plea said.

The PIL also claimed if the security of the highest house in India is not sufficient then the life and property of citizens are also is at stake.

In a major security breach, two men carrying smoke canisters gained unauthorised entry into the lower house of Parliament on December 13. 

The duo, apprehended subsequently by the security agencies, jumped into the Lok Sabha premises from the visitors' gallery. The police have subsequently arrested two others outside Parliament including a woman and two others days after.

"This was a massive security lapse," the plea filed through advocate Shruti Bisht said.

It also expressed concerned regarding safety and security of the members of the Parliament inside the house and anything could have happened inside the Lok Sabha.

“It was a complete security lapse and the smoke could have been poisonous more so it is very much shocking that when a highest house (temple) of the nation wherein the future of the nation is decided, is under stake then the citizens of India are also under stake, resulting the judicial interference,” the plea said.
